Bristol Rovers (41), Mansfield Town (15), Brentford (2).

Adrian remembers: ‘Roger played for Bristol Rovers and was selected for the England Youth squad in Nov 1964. He made his league debut before he was 18. I think he played about 40 games and then went to Mansfield, 14 games plus 1 sub in 1967-68 and who only escaped relegation due to Peterborough's financial troubles, he then went to Brentford for 1+1 game and sub before moving to Falmouth.

When I was a schoolboy I spent 4 years at Bristol Rovers and he was an apprentice. I used to wait for autographs after the game and then would walk around to the other side of the ground to catch a number 83 bus home. Roger also used to catch the same bus and lived in digs one stop after me. I used to nod at him but was too shy to speak to him as he was older and playing higher than me. Then one day he said to me, what’s your name, come and sit with me and tell me how many goals you scored this week. I really used to look forward to those bus rides every two weeks. He used to have his black hair brylcreamed back like Elvis in his early days and wore winklepicker shoes, he was very quietly spoken, he had a lovely touch on the pitch and was very skilful. I had no idea he had died but saw from your files that he passed away at 49 years of age, such a shame because I can remember his kindness and interest, if only we could turn the clock back!’
