Sugosa.
Sugosa was a small company
established (probably in the 1920s) to import and distribute
confectionery from Czechoslovakia for the U.K. market. The London
office designed the sweets - product, wrapping etc. and the Czechs
made them. The confectionery was distributed to the retail trades and
supermarkets.
The company occupied a suite of offices in
Marlon House, Mark Lane, London which is adjacent to Fenchurch Street
Railway Station. In the 1960s there were six employees at Sugosa:
David Mitchell, Stewart Gibson, Vance Pennington, Bob Warrior and two
secretaries/typists/phone operators. Vance Pennington has personally
assisted greatly with the information on this page, for which thanks
are due and given.
In 1966, Sugosa had the Czechs produce a sugar
confection by way of a lollipop with a 'World Cup Willie' design
that went right through it, rather like lettering in British seaside
rock. |
