A&BC Chewing Gum Set details: 1973/74 Crinkle Cuts Number in set: 32 Checklists: Set checklist, Team checklist Notes: In 1969/70 A&BC Chewing Gum produced a set of 36 black and white autographed photos (commonly known as 'crinkle cuts') for their English collectors, and a set of 15 for their Scottish cards. By 1973/74 they had given up on the separate sets and produced a single set of 32, with a fair smattering of Scottish players. The quality of the card is not as good as the 1969/70 sets, it is much rougher and the photo does not have the gloss finish of the earlier set. These 1973/74 cards, included as part of the Blue backs set, have not lasted the years very well, mainly due to the poor quality of the paper and the lack of a finish on the photos. Most therefore are found these days in poor condition. These cards are known to exist with straight sides i.e. without the crinkle cuts, but it is not clear how or why they were issued in that way. |
